Lake Tahoe Facts

Lake Tahoe is the sixth largest lake by volume in North America. Only the five Great Lakes are larger. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake (above 5000 feet) in North America.

Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in North America at 1,645 ft (501 m). Only Crater Lake in Oregon is deeper.

The Truckee River is the only outlet for Lake Tahoe, controlled by the dam at Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City, California. Fanny Bridge gets it's name from the sightseers with their backsides pointed toward the passing traffic looking at the fish swimming near the dam.
